Solids Control

Centrifuges are an integral part of Solids Control equipment. Here at Oilfield Solutions Limited; we make use of advanced Decanter Centrifuges to provide efficient solids control and waste management during drilling operations. Decanter centrifuges play a pivotal role in various processes from solids-liquid separation to oil-water separation. These high-speed machines utilize centrifugal force to separate substances of different densities, ensuring efficient and effective operations.

Let’s explore how a Decanter Centrifuge functions and it’s key features:

How a Decanter Centrifuge Functions:

A decanter centrifuge operates on the principle of centrifugal force, this drives the separation of even the finest particles. The drilling fluid to be separated is fed into the rotating bowl. The high-speed rotation causes the denser particles (solids) to be forced to the outer wall of the bowl, while the lighter liquid phase remains closer to the center. The solids are continuously scraped from the bowl wall and discharged, while the clarified liquid is collected and removed. The centrifuge efficiently separates solid particles such as drill cuttings and other contaminants from drilling fluids, ensuring that the fluids can be reused and proper disposal of solids.

Features of Oilfield Solutions Decanter Centrifuges

  1. High-Speed Rotation: The centrifuge operates at high speeds, generating centrifugal forces that effectively separate solids from liquids. The High-speed rotation generates significant centrifugal forces, which are crucial for the separation process. As the centrifuge bowl spins at thousands of revolutions per minute (RPM), the denser solids are forced outward against the bowl walls, while the lighter liquids move towards the center. This powerful force allows for the efficient extraction of fine particles that might otherwise remain suspended in the fluid.
  2. Large Bowl Capacity: its bowl is designed to accommodate high volumes of drilling fluids, ensuring efficient processing of large quantities. With a large bowl, the centrifuge can operate for extended periods without the need for frequent maintenance or emptying, which significantly reduces downtime and operational costs.
  3. Adjustable Bowl Speed: The rotational speed of the bowl can be adjusted to optimize separation based on the specific properties of the mixture. Especially, in situations where finer solids need to be separated, increasing the bowl speed generates higher centrifugal forces, leading to better separation of smaller particles. This adjustability ensures that the centrifuge can be adapted to a wide range of drilling conditions, providing clients with a versatile and reliable solution for solids control.
  4. Efficient Solids Separation: Decanter centrifuges use centrifugal forces to separate solids based on their density. The efficiency of the separation process is enhanced by the design of the centrifuge, which maximizes the surface area for separation and ensures that even the finest particles are removed. The separated solids are continuously discharged from the bowl, preventing accumulation and ensuring uninterrupted operation.
  5. Liquid Clarification: The centrifuge ensures that the liquids returned to the system are of high quality, which not only improves the overall efficiency of the drilling process but also minimizes the environmental footprint by reducing the need for fresh-water or new drilling fluids. Clarified liquids are essential for maintaining the performance of drilling systems, as solids-laden fluids can cause equipment wear, clogging, and operational inefficiencies. The clarified liquid is collected in a separate compartment and can be further processed or reused.
  6. Durability: our centrifuges are built to withstand harsh environmental conditions. They are made using high-grade materials that resist corrosion, abrasion, and wear, ensuring that they can operate reliably for extended periods without significant maintenance. This provides clients with reduced equipment breakdown, increased productivity, and cost savings.
  7. Barite Recovery: Our advanced Decanter Centrifuges, also excel in recovering barite from drilling fluids. Barite, which is a critical weighting agent in drilling muds, is essential for maintaining wellbore stability and controlling pressure during drilling. Decanter centrifuges can be specifically engineered to recover these fine barite particles, enabling their reuse.
